Updates!

Fourth and Fifth grades have been learning how to use the almanac and the atlas. Next month, Katie Jane Morris from the Hoover Library will be here to demonstrate the Alabama Virtual Library. The Third Grade is learning how to take notes and enjoying "book commercials". Second Grade is learning more about the Dewey Decimal System. First Grade is learning about how a book is made. And, Kindergarten is learning about what authors and illustrators do as well as parts of a book.

This month's Appointment with Destiny...

Take a look at our library's home page at http://destiny.hoover.k12.al.us/common/welcome.jsp?site=113

We have lots of links for teachers and students. Here you'll find a schedule of upcoming library events, links to book award sites, The Citation Machine, age-appropriate search engines for kids, the AVL, Homework Help and more.

Probably most important to most of you is the link to the computer lab schedule. If you've forgotten how to access the schedule, please refer to the How-to Page on this wiki. There you will find instructions for the lab schedule.

Book Review

Oggie Cooder by Sarah Weeks, is a wonderful book for middle readers. Oggie is a quirky fourth grader whose talent for carving cheese with his teeth draws the attention of the school's Queen Bee, Donnica Perfecto. Donnica wants to make him a television star, but is it for his benifit, or for her own? When he becomes a cheese carving hit, can he deal with his new-found fame while maintaining his unique take on life?

Broadcast

Students are encouraged to come to the broadcast room on their birthday. They need to be in the broadcast room no later than 7:55 in order to go on the air at 8:00.

Also, let us know if you have any news you want reported on "the news". I will be happy to send a reporter to interview you or your students.
